In doing so, it could well pave the way for Manchester United to materialise their interest in Sandro Tonali.

Although the Magpies would love nothing more than to keep hold of Tonali, there is likely an acceptance behind the scenes that he is one of their most valuable assets, who could bring in a respectable transfer fee.

As well as that, the former AC Milan talisman is said to be adamant about playing Champions League football next season, which the Red Devils are now confirmed to be able to offer to their summer targets.

Fabrizio Romano has previously claimed that Tonali would be open to making the switch to Old Trafford, although you’d imagine Newcastle would try to find any other suitor possible to avoid such a transaction happening.

Yet, if Tonali himself decides that’s the move he wants to make, they would eventually have to honour his wishes the same way they did with Alexander Isak last year.
