Manchester United Women were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool at Carrington on Sunday, with Ella Toone’s second-half equaliser not enough to prevent Ceri Holland from scoring what proved to be the winner as Liverpool claimed a fourth straight pre-season victory.
An own goal put Liverpool ahead early in the second half after Maya Le Tissier’s backpass was touched by substitute Aurelie Csillag and deflected past goalkeeper Janina Leitzig, who had replaced Phallon Tullis-Joyce at the interval, according to Liverpool’s official website. Toone levelled a minute later, but Holland restored Liverpool’s lead in the 61st minute to settle the behind-closed-doors fixture.
A tight first half at CarringtonChances were scarce before the break, with Jayde Riviere dragging an early effort wide after Liverpool goalkeeper Khiara Keating could only parry Toone’s corner into her path, according to United’s official match report. Toone also sent an acrobatic effort off target after meeting Riviere’s cross.

Liverpool regained the lead when Fuka Nagano released Vivien Endemann on the right and Csillag headed her delivery back across goal for Holland to finish. The visitors later went close to a third through Csillag, but United remained in the contest until the closing stages.
