Manchester United midfielder Jacob Devaney is in talks over a loan move to Hibernian, with the 19-year-old considering another spell in Scottish football as midfield additions have made first-team opportunities harder to secure.
The update comes via BBC Sport, which reports that Devaney has attracted significant interest and that talks with Hibernian have reached an advanced stage, though nothing has been signed off yet.
Why United are letting him goDevaney had hoped to force his way into first-team contention this season and did himself no harm with a couple of encouraging pre-season outings, including a goalscoring display against Rosenborg.
But United’s midfield rebuild has rather overtaken him. Casemiro has left, Manuel Ugarte is sidelined through injury, and Mason Mount has struggled to convince, prompting the club to bring in three new midfielders this summer: Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, whose £70million move has been finalised.
With Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo among the midfield options competing with him for a place, minutes at Old Trafford were always going to be scarce for Devaney this term, and a temporary exit to continue his development now looks the sensible route.
