Rasmus Hojlund will draw the curtains on his Manchester United tenure at the end of the campaign when he signs for Napoli on a permanent deal.

It will see the Dane officially cut ties with the Red Devils just three years into his five-year deal, having only actually played for United for two seasons.

Why United are right to part ways with Hojlund this summer

Yet, the large majority of the United faithful would agree that it’s a wise move from the club.

Selling Hojlund while his stocks are the highest they have been since he made the switch to Manchester, and when there’s a buyer actually there, ready to pay up, means it’s a transfer that suits all parties involved.

While the striker, who’s a boyhood United fan, would’ve undoubtedly dreamt of hitting his peak in M16 and representing the side for the foreseeable future, he wants to be a starting centre-forward, and that wouldn’t be the case if he were to stay put.

Hojlund overseeing a dismal sophomore campaign in 2024/2025 left United no choice but to enter the market for a replacement last summer.

He stayed until the very final stages of the transfer window to gauge how his situation may look, until the £73 million acquisition of Benjamin Sesko set in stone that Hojlund would be fighting an uphill battle for game time.

Even his successor, Sesko, is struggling to cement a starting spot due to the form of Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha up front, and that’s with him scoring seven goals in his last 10 league appearances.

How Hojlund is faring for Napoli

Over in Naples, the 23-year-old has enjoyed more prolific goalscoring form than last season.

In his 37 appearances across all competitions, Hojlund has returned 14 goals and four assists, and has already claimed silverware in the form of the Supercoppa Italiana.

“Rasmus Hojlund is going to complete his move to Napoli, it’s as simple as that,” said journalist Ben Jacobs when weighing in on the impending deal, which will see United earn £38m from the transaction.
