Manchester United officially confirmed the move, revealing that McAllister “has agreed a month-long youth loan to Radcliffe FC, subject to registration,” according to The Peoples Person. Radcliffe have since confirmed McAllister will wear the number 34 shirt at his new club.

The National League doesn’t follow the same window structure as the Premier League, which is how the switch was able to get done despite the English transfer deadline having passed.

First taste of senior football

This is McAllister’s first loan away from Manchester United, and it arrives after years spent fighting for titles with the club’s U18s and U21s. He captained the U18s to a 2023/24 treble, lifting the Premier League North title before beating Chelsea in the Premier League National final, with United completing the sweep by seeing off Manchester City in the Premier League Cup final.

McAllister has also represented England up to U18 level and has captained his country, adding international pedigree to a resume that already marked him out as one of Carrington’s more rounded prospects. He’s primarily a midfielder but has shown he’s comfortable at right-back too.

He joins a Radcliffe side in genuine trouble. They’ve won just one of their opening seven National League North fixtures and sit bottom of the table, while also operating without a permanent manager since Bernard Morley resigned last month. It’s a sharp contrast to the trophy-laden environment McAllister has known at United’s academy, and not unlike the step into senior football recently taken by Sekou Kone on his own loan assignment, or the paths trodden by Dan Gore at Luton and Jacob Devaney at Hibernian.

Radcliffe wasted no time getting him involved, naming McAllister on the bench for their home fixture against Hebburn Town. With the loan only initially set for a month, both clubs will get a quick look at how he copes with the physicality and pace of senior football before any decision is made on extending the arrangement.
