Bruno Fernandes looks to have sustained a hamstring injury in the first half of Manchester United’s clash with Aston Villa.
The Red Devils skipper stopped dead on the ball after appearing to feel some discomfort around the hamstring area.
While he did soldier on to see out the remaining minutes of the first half, Fernandes continued to walk gingerly around the field, prompting concerns that he would be taken off during the interval.
What’s more, Gary Neville, who’s co-commentating the game alongside Peter Drury on Sky Sports, said: “He’s (Fernandes) just signalled to the bench.”
Neville added: “[Ruben] Amorim’s told [Joshua] Zirkzee to go and warm up.”
Alas, United’s Mr Dependable could well be withdrawn from the action after only 45 minutes. To make matters worse, if it is indeed a hamstring problem, the Portuguese talisman might be out for a handful of fixtures.
It’s safe to say that’s quite literally the last thing Amorim needs around any period of the campaign – not least the hectic festive period, where matches are coming thick and fast, and the league table starts to really take shape.
